Transformations of the Iraqi landscape: challenges and outcomes

The seminar delivered by Dr. Liqaa Maki at the Iraq Center for Future Studies addressed the transformations of the Iraqi political landscape in the post–October protests phase, amid a relative calm prevailing in the Iraqi street, against the backdrop of a weak state and the erosion of trust in the political system.
It focused on structural challenges, most notably corruption, institutional fragility, and the impact of regional and international dynamics on Iraqi decision-making.
The seminar highlighted that Iraq stands at a critical crossroads between the possibility of gradual reform and the continuation of crises in new forms.
It concluded that future stability is contingent upon the Iraqi street’s ability to create a new reality that imposes a different political order, and on the linkage of this popular will to a new regional actor.
